Health Displays

Displays in health centres, surgeries and other settings can provide information to promote good health. To make them interesting and effective here are some top tips.

Top tips for displaying health information

Choose a good location. The display should be clearly visible, have a header (such as ‘Health Information’ or ‘Health Promotion Campaigns’) and be on a separate board or a defined area.

Using a theme for the display helps to give clear messages. Tie in with national and local health priorities, such as obesity and smoking.

Refresh
boards, changing regularly with new information. Health Promotion’s campaigns calendar provides a bi-monthly timetable of key campaigns. Use these to order materials and to link to electronic information.

Aim to create an attractive and eye catching display, pleasing on the eye. Balance the use of words and pictures, with an evenly spaced lay out to achieve a tidy and uncluttered look. Keep fixings unobtrusive, making use of double sided tape or velcro etc.

The display needs to be informative - relevant to the audience, accurate and up to date, and appropriate for the community. A logical arrangement makes it easier to read and absorb. Include links to associated local services as well as contacts for more information.
